Typo in Apple Camera RAW #1

One of my lenses is always labeled incorrectly in the metadata fields. My Canon 300mm f/4L IS appears as “anon 300mm f/4L IS” in both Aperture (3.5.1) and iPhoto (9.5.1). The lens is correctly labeled in Photoshop and Digital Photo Professional, so I think this is an issue with Apple’s RAW software.

I have tried a fresh install of both iPhoto and Aperture when I purchased a new Mac recently so I do not think this is a damaged installation.

Has anyone else had this problem and did you find a fix for it?

I have sent multiple messages to Apple on the Aperture Feedback page. The first was over a year ago when I first got the lens and then again a few months ago, but no fix has been issued. I also noticed a post on these forums for a method of adding manual (unlisted) lens data to Aperture, but the external link is broken.

In case anyone is having a similar issue, I did eventually find a hack to fix this problem.

Step by step instructions are on the Apple Discussion site here…
