Just wondering what you all do.

If and when I export a project as a new library and then merge the newly formed library into another library the original project still exists in the original library. Do you delete this project.

Just reread this and may not make sense. see below for more details.

Library 1 Project A
Export project A as new library.
Result Library A
Merge Library A with Library 2
Result Library A/2
Project still exists in Library 1 (what do you do with that? delete it?)

Graham,

Yep, delete it. If you don’t you’ll end up with version confusion down the road.

Just be sure the new one is backed up before you delete.

Raud,

Without masters you can’t do any editing to the photo except to work on metadata.

However exporting masters or not will never delete the originals.

I have a similar question. I’m new to aperture and started to use it as of version 3.3.
During export I get the question: include originals?
What will happen if I do not check this box, do the export and delete Project A in Libray 1?

Hello Aperture Expert,

I exported a “Project as New Library” as I jettison projects I have not accessed in some time.

Should I have selected the “Copy originals into exported library” and “Copy previews into exported library” options when presented with a dialogue box?

I selected neither option and the project seems to have still exported to a new library.

Thank you. :)

Seamus you’ll get more responses by starting a new post… but this works too.

You don’t have to include the original images with the library, Ap will remember where they are. Your exported lib is now a referenced Lib. If you included them in the lib you’d have a Managed Lib. Previews can be rebuilt later if needed. They take up some space so for archiving a lib its not a bad idea at all to leave them off. You did good

Cheers dbm
