Aperture user John Thawley @JThawley has found a solution to his performance woes, and it involves deleteing not only a preference file, but certain caches as well.

This article dates back to June, but I just saw it. Read all about it on his blog — Perhaps A Performance Improvement in Aperture 3

Important Note!

In the article referenced above, it is advised to remove cache folders from a variety of places, including the System Library (which is different than the User Library). There is a particular file however, com.apple.xpchelper.cache, that if removed, may prohibit video playback in Aperture.

ApertureExpert’s advice is to ONLY remove the cache files in the user folder if attempting to clean up issues using this method. We have an FAQ on the matter with specific instructions as well.
