Great video, been hooked on these since i ended up in hospital last week with kidney stones! Helped take my mind off the pain and finally got some much needed research done! Loved your in depth shogun inferno video, hoping to purchase soon, just concerned about fan noise and exposed heat sinks to water. But my question is, “HLG or Vlog”. You said at the end of question 1, best settings are GH5 set to V Log and 4K 60p out to ext recorder. Is HLG not a competitive setting to V Log? Just started using HLG (never bought the V Log licence because didn’t need it when i started with the gh5)
Better put, would you ever choose HLG over V Log and if so/not why? Thanks!
About vignetting with NDs...I use a Magic SLR Variable ND II 77mm with my GH5 and Panasonic and Olympus lenses with Kenko step up rings: Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 II, Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 MK I, Panasonic 100-300mm MK I, Olympus 60mm Macro and Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro and never had any issues with vignetting. Also used in the past a Hoya 77mm IR/UV cut filter with the same step up rings and no issues either.
+Dave's Nature Productions Super, thanks for sharing!
@photoJoseph I've updated all the new firmware on my GH5 and I still don't see 4k 60p mode in my HDMI Rec Output in my MENU SET can anyone help me with this problem I'm having because I'm trying to use it with my NINJA INFERNO. thank you so much in advance.
+Oshy Byrd sweet
PhotoJoseph yes it was 100%
+Oshy Byrd Haha awesome. So it was PAL vs NTSC?
PhotoJoseph I gotta say your amazing because I asked this question to over 50 gh5 users and no one could tell me why I couldn’t see it omg thank you so much. PhotoJoseph 🙏🏼
You have to be in NTSC to get 60p; if you are in PAL the fastest will be 50p. It doesn't show up on the HDMI Rec Output; you look for it with the rest of the shooting mode selections.
I unfortunately got off work later than the live show. My question is when I get the GH5, should I go all into the Atomos Shogun Inferno or what’s the best budget external monitor for exporting 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2?
+JustSimplyBrandon The Inferno is the budget option at only $1,000
GH5 issue with Autofocus in Manual setting after update 2.1?

Before I updated to version 2.1 I used Manual focus in Creative Video Mode.
I used the touch function to get an autofocus using the "touch AF".
I think this works great.
After the update the AF only works in some of the Size/Frame rate settings!
The AF in Manual mode does not work in FHD/8bit/100M/50p (MOV). I cannot use the Touch or THe AF/AE-lock or the Shutter button!
If change nothing else but change to 4K/ALL-I/400M/50p (MOV)the they all work.
The AF also works in 4K/10bit/150M/25p (MOV) but not in 4K/8bit/150M/50p (MOV) !
I have tested this using 2 lenses (Panasonic 12-60 3.5-5.6 kit lens and Sigma 18-35 1.8) and they behave the same.
I have not tested all Size/Frame rate settings. Is this a known bug or what am I missing?
Do you have any tips on how I should procede?
Updated ...I never reset the camera after the 2.1 update. After resetting the camera now the Touch AF in Manual Focus seem to work for the Frame/Time code settings that did not work previously. I will test more on this.
im really trying to find a time code syncing solution for my GH5's , many times im shooting with 2 or 3 gh5's each one with xlr-1 audio box and 2 sources fed into each camera, sO i cant use a tennacle time code device or others. I cant seem to get the app to get each one to free run the accurate time of day or synch them all to time of day with app.
@PhotoJoseph i was shooting a lot of footage in a studio at 23.98 in 180vfr while connected to my atomos shogun inferno , at first I was trying to record internally to gh5 and externally to my atomos shogun inferno, i started recording and saw glitching in the monitor but not camera then stopped recording then started recording again and saw glitching in camera monitor and atomos shogun. after several trys i reviewed footage and many clips were recorded to card with glitches in it ( i use mainly transcend class10 u3 r95 cards) i then switched to delkin and sony v60 cards but issue persisted, then I disconnected hdmi cables and issues went away. even when I just used shogun inferno as a monitor it glitched in the recording. So is there any way to use a external monitor when shooting 180vfr
+BRENT KAPLAN OK I’ll try to test it myself and see what happens
i did check that, it was set to 8 bit. and i tried different settings.
+BRENT KAPLAN or you could try making sure that the output on HDMI is set to 8 bit and not 10 bit. I wonder if that could have anything to do with it.
YES, i didnt try a different monitor but im thinking i might.
+BRENT KAPLAN interesting… so 1080p23.98 with 180fps VFR, and if an external monitor is connected; the recorded footage glitches. If no monitor, no glitch. I got that all right?
