Support for 32-bit Plug-ins Gone in Aperture 3.3

Well folks, it’s time to clean house. Those 32-bit plug-ins are toast. If you try to launch one you’ll see the message below:
32-bit plug-ins won’t work.
We’ve already heard some users are perturbed that they weren’t warned before installing the Aperture 3.3 update that their legacy plugins wouldn’t work.
Aperture went 64-bit two years ago with Snow Leopard, then with Lion it went full 64-bit, and apparently Mountain Lion will drop 32-bit support entirely.
NOTE: The plugin in the screenshot above is an outdated version of Viveza; Nik Software updated all of its plugins to 64-bit quite some time ago.
There are, however, other plugins out there that have not been updated.

You article is spot-on, but your photo may misrepresent the current state of affairs. All current Nik plug-ins claim 64 bit host compatibility. I have not personally tested this myself. See the following Nik webpage:

Thanks for pointing that out. You are correct. Viveza is now 64-bit. I never bothered upgrading it and that was one of the last 32-bit plugins I had to test it.

I have tested Viveza 2 and Silver Efex Pro 2 in the upgrade and they both work fine. So does PTLens – it is 64 bit.

Does anyone know if David Holmes’ ‘ApertureToPhanfare’ export plugin is 64-bit? For the life of me I cannot find this info. In Aperture, if I go to File/Export it does tell me which plug-ins are 32 bit, but no mention if other plugins are 64 bit. A bit strange, pun intended.

Replying to my own post, in the hopes of getting this question / article to the top of a list:
I’m reluctant to upgrade my 3.2.3 to 3.4 because I cannot find out if the Phanfare plugin is 32 bit or 64 bit. The latest plugin version is 0.24 but that’s from Nov 12, 2010 and David Holmes website makes no mention of it. Anyone knows? Really would like to start using Shared Photo Streams in Aperture (and will dislike the grayscale icons in the sidebar, but I digress)
