The amazing application Aperture Inspector is now being sold by ApertureExpert — and we’re very excited to add this to the collection!

Aperture Inspector analyzes your camera equipment usage to tell you what gear you’re using the most — and least! — so you can make educated decisions on what to upgrade, what to keep, or even what to sell.

Read all about it and watch the introduction/training video on the new Aperture Inspector page. And to make things really sweet, we’re releasing it at an introductory price of just $7.99—the price will go back up at the end of February, so don’t delay.

Check it out here.

I bought this way back when it was sold by MacCreate and it’s a pretty good app, I recommend it.

Interesting! I’ve thought about building something like this myself… On the other hand, my smart albums usually keep track of this for me, and I don’t buy or sell much gear until I’m certain I’ll use it.

Still, this looks like a cool app, so I’ll have to check it out more! :)

How will this work with multiple libraries? Would I have to make one big library?

Milt

Milt,

You can examine as many libraries as you like but you do have to view them individually. There’s currently no way to compare libraries but that sounds like a great feature request!

Really like this program. It will definitely help analyze my shooting! A thought for a future update would be the ability to sort the columns by clicking on the headers for the different items like shots taken with lenses or cameras. Thanks again for all you do!

Hi MIke
This is a very good idea.

I’ll set up a thread in the support forum for feature request, and on the next update hopefully I’ll get the best suggestions implemented.

For $8 dollars this app is no where near as sophisticated as I would like. Lens focal lengths divided into arbitrary and unchangeable groups ie 18-24 rather than all focal lengths or choosable groups, no way to show focal length use amongst a group of lenses, the same lenses with multiple listings with no way to combine their results, no way to choose a group of cameras and show focal length or other and lens use statistics etc.

I’m not saying it’s useless, it is actually fairly useful, but compared to say, the immense power of The Photographer’s Ephemeris for example, at about the same price, it is very limited and about $3 would be a fairer price. Maybe a free update will temper my opinion.

Hi Zack
Thanks for your feedback, a lot of grat ideas for new functions in the app here.

We are always planning the next version of the app, and this will help us make a better one. I’ll add the option to “group” equipment” to the development-list, as this seems like an excellent idea.

The app has a built-in update mechanism, and all updates are free of course. So hopefully we can make you a much happier customer with the next update. If you have any other ideas as to what we should change or add to the app there is a forum thread for requests
