LUMIX S5 Unboxing and HDR Color Grading (LIVE Replay)

Photo Moment - September 03, 2020

This is a replay of the LIVE show! I go live every Wednesday at 10am Pacific for a show of random chattering and meandering tech. It's a great place to get any lingering questions you have, answered!

(usually LIVE shows are members-only for replay, but I've left this one up for everyone. And no, I'm not sure why it looks this bad, sorry. Actually I think I know what happened.)

?
Thanks for the in-depth coverage of the Lumix S5. Great content!
18:09---OMG!! If they ever make a live-action Venture Bros... PhotoJoseph,, you ARE Dr. Thaddeus Venture!!
LOL had to look that up… pretty close! Need to reshape the beard though… 🤔
Is there any way to check focus while recording. I feel like this is a deal breaker for me. I have been a Sony shooter for the last 8 years and i'm entertaining the idea of the S5 due to the 10bit recording and low cost of the camera. I can live without AF as I'm quite comfortable manual focusing, but no magnification assist while recording....yikes
Marcel Lee Understood— have you verified that it doesn’t do that? I’d have to check to be certain.
@@photojoseph thanks for this. I'm afraid this is a deal breaker for me. Love the specs and the horsepower that the S5 offered but focus magnification while shooting helps my critical focus OCD
Right, the punch in doesn't work while shooting. At least it hasn't in the past; I haven't actually tried it on the S5. But focus peaking works fine.
@@photojoseph no i was hoping to magnify on the cameras monitor. I'm a run and gun shoot that I can't always have an external monitor on me
Are you wanting magnification on the LCD or on an external monitor?
Holy Mother of Lumix Photo Joseph. the site Digital Camera Sales is today reporting Panasonic has informed the financial markets that due to poor camera sales, it's camera division has sustained terrible losses, and that it's considering an "Olympus" move, i.e. re structuring its camera division, meaning a significant reduction or end to micro 4/3 production and probably FF too...with an outlook that augurs poorly for Lumix brand. You may soon have to be an ambassador for another brand dude. the losses cited are substantial. Panasonic of course will survive, it makes washing machines to microwaves, but it's camera division? it appears the beginning of the end.
WOW this looks like crap… OK, if you were watching live, did this actually look this bad while live? And if so, WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SOMETHING?! Especially on the screen sharing like at 35:08 – gross. Time stamps below if you want to watch this.
Mathew Frazer Actually no… I had set up a scaler to bring my HD display from the ATEM Mini up to 4K to match the ATEM 2 M/E before last week’s attempted (and failed due to low bandwidth) 4K live stream. But I neglected to remove that so this image is scaled up to 4K and back to 1080, and the scaler isn’t that great to begin with, so this was the result. But what I was looking at was pre-scaler so I never noticed. Oops.
I am venturing a guess that the reason it all looks so blownout is the output of the computer is conformed for an HDR display and that is what was fed to the switcher? Just a guess.
Lol 29:06 I caught that
hahaha I wonder how many people will catch that… glad you did!!
Dude, your set up is amazing!
