I’m a wedding photographer, so one of my main tacks in Aperture is sorting through thousands of photos to pick out the best ones. I use stacks for this. I could use ranking If I had to though.

I’ve heard that Photos does not have a ranking feature, but does it have stacks? If it has neither, how on earth can you sort through pics without deleting all the ones you don’t want?

No, it doesn’t have stacks.  I’m just a casual photographer but the other problem I’m running into when comparing photos is not being able to select just the multiple photos I’d like to compare and making those full screen like you could in Aperture.

You’d have to use favorites or keywords. In fact it converts star ratings to keywords (e.g. 1 Star, 2 Star) when migrating an Aperture library to Photos.

You can also hide photos as an alternative to rejecting.

Frustrating! I want to use this new program but I feel like I’m wasting my time.
