Hello,

In a previous post I was hunting down a possible bug in Silver Efex Pro 2 not opening psd files. Turns out this is not a bug:

“Thank you for contacting Nik Software.  This is not a bug that you are encountering.  Silver Efex Pro 2 does not have the ability to open .psd files.  We are shifting away from that file format with our new plug-ins.  You need to have a .tif or a .jpg to open Silver Efex Pro 2.”

Not sure what their line of reasoning is except that tif is an open standard and psd is not. Looks like another kick in the butt for Adobe. In the end there is no diff between a psd and a 16 bit tif so not sure I care. I'm sure the Lightroom folks will though (evil grin)

Hope that helps others. Set your exports to tif and forget it.

Robert,

Really, that’s interesting.

I actually rely on PSD files quite a bit, so I can maintain layers if I actually do something in Photoshop. But fortunately, it’s really easy to change the setting in Aperture.

Thanks for sharing the info from Nik. Good to know it’s not a bug. Of course their error dialog could be slightly more useful ;-)
