Library problems. #1

Good morning,

I’m using the latest version of Aperture, with IMAC 10.9.2

Library contains 1927 photos mostly all raw.

I have a total of about 105GB of photos in Documents.

Since a few days, my library is playing all kind of tricks.

When I ask to delete versions , it deletes the originals in my Documents files..

If I have , say 500 photos in one file (Documents), it will only import  350.

When I ask to get the other 150 by “Do not duplicate’ it shows that no photos are available.

Right now . my major photos files in document are full of duplicates. Lucky me I have back ups.

Should I delete that library/catalog or delete all my projects and start new.

I have to alter all my files in documents with my backups.

Any simplier suggestions for this mess.

Best regards

Ray

Im not at all familiar with your work flow so I and maybe others have not chimed in yet.  What do you mean by images in a Document?  Do you mean Project or Folder instead of Document?  DBM

Good morning David,

Images in a Document means that all my photos are in my “DOCUMENTS” under various files. IE: Trips, Flowers, Buildings, etc.

Here’s what I did since ……

A) Erased all projects in Aperture.

B) Emptied the Waste Basket in Aperture as well as the Trash in DOS.

C) Erased all my photo files in “Documents” and cleaned the trash basket.

D) Recreated in “Documents” all the these files from my previous Backups.

E) Created a new Library in Aperture.

F) Open new projects in Aperture.

Many thanks for your response

Best regards

Ray

So bear with me…Im slow.  In your Documents Folder you have made sub folders of Trips  flowers buildings etc.  So you have a Referenced Library?  Or is the Documents Folder your Backup of images images?   Can you confirm that the AP Lib is on your internal Hard drive and that your Lib is  Managed or Referenced?  Thanks, once I get the terminology straight I can take a stab at helping.  dbm

Hello M. Moore,

Yes I have a referenced library. My “Documents ” contains my originale files  and I do my “Time Machine” backups from there.

The Aperture Library is in my internal drive.  (Main Drive.)

I hope this clarifies some terminologies.

Thanks again David.

When I ask to delete versions , it deletes the originals in my Documents files..

If this continues try deleting the Plist file from the Home Lib in systems under preferences.  FAQ has more details

When  you made a new library did that problem go away?

As for duplicates in your documents folder.  I think I heard of an app for finding Dups.  These dupes you visually see in document correct?  Is there a (1) in the file name?
