I wonder if anyone can resolve this for me?

I am trying to merge an older library form Aperture 3.2 into Aperture 3.5.1 and I get the error message that I need to update the older library. I have followed several methods of doing this (from the internet including Apple’s advice) but none have been successful. Apple Support can not resolve it either. The library will just not update. I am using Mavericks at the moment and do not want to update to Yosemite in case it makes the problem worse.
