Aperture Update Problem-Loupe-Sort-Export #1

I'm running 10.6.8, 2.6 intel core 2, 4GB 667 ram.
Everything was running fine and after the last AE tutorial I finally know every button in Aperture!! (Thanks Joseph)
1 Now that I did the update every time I export an image it is sent out as sRGB-even though I have Adobe RGB set in preferences. Doesn't matter if it starts in AdobeRGB, psd, or raw, tiff, jpeg..
2 I can not use the the Sort by (date, rating, label) drop down and have it order the images as requested.
3 When I use the loupe, I may get 100% (desired magnification) but I also may get 1600, 321…. even though the loupe is always closed as 100%.
4 I do have to fool around with the sort button, keep pressing different tabs not to get the sort but to even see all the images I have, but still I'm not having the lost images issue others are having.
Is it time for a new MBPro (this is 3 years old and going strong) or Lightroom? Lightroom (Adobe) doesn't play the games Apple does, and yes I did work for Apple.
Thanks!

Gary,

1. Is everything else in the export preset being honored; i.e. size, watermark, format, and only the color profile is being set wrong? Or is everything else wrong, too?

2. When you say you “can not use”, what precisely do you mean? I assume you’re talking about the drop-down menu in the Browser [screenshot] — so is the menu missing? If not, when you select it does it pop back to a specific setting? Does the setting stick but the images don’t re-order? What happens if you move a thumbnail manually; does the menu switch to Manual?

3. This has been a long-standing bug. The loupe can open at some random zoom setting. I thought this one was actually addressed in the 3.2 update but I could be wrong; I don’t use the loupe much. But when I do and it opens wrong, I just scroll down on the mouse to zoom back out.

4. I’m not sure what sort button you’re talking about, or what “lost images problem” others are having. The only lost images issues reported here are extremely isolated and always due to moving files around incorrectly and/or old libraries that need to be repaired or rebuilt.

1. Thank you Joseph. Everything else is fine. It is now only when I export to the desktop. Going into Photoshop seems to be fine.
2. Yes the drop-down menu in the Browser. Now that I “Repaired the Database” if I try to change from date to rating, it would give me a different project! I’m going to reinstall and then get back to you.
3. Yes I just resize it.
4. If I changed from date to rating (again same place) some images would not be shown even if there was no rating on an image with a few adjustments made to it.

Gary,

Sounds like you have big-time database issues. When tracking down a problem like this, the easiest things to do are a) trash the preferences and b) create a brand new Library, import a handful of photos, and see if you can reproduce the problem. Reinstalling likely won’t help since it will just install the application, and not overwrite any preferences files. If you look in the home/library folder, you’ll find a few things you can remove if you really want to do a full uninstall. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture and also (root) /Library/Application Support/Aperture and also ~/Library/Preferences and look for anything Aperture related.

That’s what we’re here for… saving hair, one follicle at a time ;-)

Please do let us know how things go and if/how you end up isolating the problem.
