Hi,

All questions, discussions and feature requests pertaining to the great Mac photo editing software Picktorial can be posted here.

Picktorial is a powerful photo editor and is actively being updated by the developers!

—-

I did not find a way to add Picktorial to the list of apps in the forum section and am obliged to start the topic in the “Apple Photos for OSX” forum…If Joseph can move this to a seperate Picktorial forum category, it might be easier to find for new members

Thanks SKR Imaging!
I’m leading the team. I would love to answer any question and appreciate any feature request.

While this thread is in “Apple Photos for OS X”, Picktorial also offers a standalone version that provides all editing tools as the Photos extension + a library.

The library of Picktorial is file-based. It automatically monitors changes in referenced folders, so no import, and no copying is needed. Picktorial can also browse Aperture libraries natively.

If you haven’t tried Picktorial yet, you are welcome to try it for free: www.picktorial.com

Hi guys, I just picked up your app to test out.

I can’t seem to find a live histogram when doing my edits. How can I invoke a histogram?

Closest I can find is show Clipping Overlay, but what are the threshold values for the clipping warnings?

Hi Tony,

The thresholds for the clipping overlay are 0.998 ( = 254.5/255 ) and 0.002 (= 0.5/255).

We will add a histogram in a future (free) update.

Just to clarify, I am not a member of the Picktorial development team. I am an avid user of the app.

Hi all! SKR, thanks for starting this thread. As you can see, I've created a new forum for Picktorial and moved this topic here.

Yoav, thank you for participating. Why don't you set your avatar to be the app icon so you're more recognizable as an official rep of the product.

Thanks guys!

A bug report. The multi-touch gesture on the trackpad does not work.  When I do a 2-finger swipe to right in the editing window, it does not pan to the right as expected. Same thing with doing a 2-finger swipe to the left; it does not pan to the left. Here's a strange behavior. When I do a 2-finger swipe up, it zooms in. Likewise, when I do a 2-finger swipe down, it zooms out. That should be a pinch to zoom and not 2-finger swipe down. Pinch to zoom works fine though.

Thanks!

Thanks!

This is actually intentional behavior, which can be found be found in some other apps as well (e.g. Google Maps, Capture One). It allows easy access to zoom in/out when using the mouse.

Unfortunately, there is no way using Apple API to distinguish between a trackpad and a Magic Mouse, so we can’t disable this automatically when using a trackpad.

To pan, click and drag. Or when using one of the local adjustments tools, hold the Command key while dragging.

We have received a feature request to optionally allow the standard behavior you described (i.e. scroll to pan rather scroll to zoom), and we will add this in a future update.

Can’t wait to see two finger trackpad panning gesture implemented.. glad to know it is being considered as the current click then drag to pan tends to slow down my editing workflow.

Here are some feature requests that could be interesting in a future update.

- Focus stacking, Panorama stitching aid and HDR merge.

- Lens correction profiles

- Straighten tool (for example drawing a line on horizon and have image straighten) - like in Corel Aftershot and DxO Optics Pro for example.

- Merging multiple photos into one is currently out of the scope of Picktorial. But the upcoming version will support easy access to external tools, so you can incorporate tools like PS or Affinity to fill that gap until it’s time for us to add them to Picktorial.

- Lens corrections profiles in DCP format are already supported internally (when available in DNG files), and we will add an option for custom lens corrections profiles soon.

- Straighten tool by drawing a horizontal line: will also be added soon.

Hello Yoav and all,

Like others here I am currently trying to learn my way around the trial version of Picktorial with a view to replacing Aperture.  One thing I’ve been unable to do is get my Aperture library into the sidebar.  I can certainly import all my photos located on a hard disk which I would be quite happy to work with but instructions make it abundantly clear that I should be able to import the Aperture library.  Advice on that would be appreciated.  Secondly, every photo that I display is horribly out of focus!  Is this a feature that will disappear if I decide on Picktorial and put the cash down?  It is certainly a go/no go item for me!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

APERTURE LIBRARIES:
To get your Aperture libraries into the sidebar, drag the library from Finder to the sidebar. If you encounter any issue with this please email us at support@picktorial.com and we will be happy to help.

SHARPNESS:
Unlike other RAW converters, Picktorial does not apply any sharpening by default (to avoid unnecessary noise) and instead lets you sharpen locally where needed. This makes the image less plausible at the beginning, but it ends up with higher quality results once you sharpen yourself. Picktorial default sharpness is comparable with Lightroom’s once you set the sharpening slider in LR to zero.

Having said that, we understand that this approach may be confusing and many users prefer global sharpening by default for quick results. We will add this option in a future update.

Best,
Yoav

Hi Yoav,

I have tried a number times to drag and drop my Aperture library from the Finder to the sidebar but nothing has happened so far.  I have seen the rotating ball thing turning which would give the impression that something is happening but leaving it all day produced nothing!

On the sharpening issue I’ll never be able to tell if I have a sharp shot or not and will have to use another application to check, somewhat defeating the object of switching to Picktorial!  Surely, having to apply more sharpening will result in an increase of contrast?    I’ve just taken a look at photos taken on a Panasonic DMC-TZ7 and two other compacts and they’re loud and clear but shots taken on five different DSLRs, including full-frame, are blurred!  That’s certainly a no-go item for me!
Paul.

Thanks Paul,

Please email us at support@picktorial.com and we can investigate the issue help you importing your Aperture libraries.

The Panasonic DMC-TZ7 and some other compacts are supported via Apple engine, which sharpens by default.
Most DSLRs are processed using our own RAW engine, which does not apply any sharpening by default.
Stay tune for the upcoming release, we add an optional global sharpening by default.

Yoav

[FEATURE REQUEST]

I remember when using Lightroom Trial and to an extent also in Aperture, we had a way to hold down the ALT key (LR) and CMD key (Aperture) on keyboard and move the Exposure, Highlights and Shadows sliders and we would get a direct view of clipping. I could not find a similar feature in Picktorial so adding this here.

Also, I wanted to add another request to enable a colour picker/slider in each of the the HSL modules of Picktorial. that way, user could select a colour directly on the image and slide left or right and Picktorial would automatically adjust accordingly.. I have seen this being used in Lightroom and thought it would be awesome in Picktorial as sometimes, I am not sure which colour slider will affect what exact part of image.. Many times I have to test multiple colors (especially in the green, yellow, orange hues) to get the correct part of image.

Keep up the great work Yoav!
