iCloud Photo Sharing + Aperture 3.5 #1

I just switched over to iCloud’s Photo Sharing and, in general, find it to be a nice alternative to share with friends and family without getting involved with social networking sites.  There seems to be an anomaly with this site.  The rules state that you cannot upload any picture with a greater length than 2048 pix…

“iCloud Photo Sharing supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. When shared, photos taken with standard point-and-shoot cameras, SLR cameras, or iOS devices will have up to 2048 pixels on the long edge. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

iCloud Photo Sharing supports both MP4 and QuickTime video file types, and H.264 and MPEG-4 Video file formats. Videos can be up to 5 minutes in length and are delivered at up to 720p resolution.”

One of my smart albums in Aperture has 90 pictures and one has 185 pictures.  In each, only 12 and 144 have uploaded.  While in my other 8 smart albums; all have uploaded.  Most pictures have one long edge greater than 2048.

Why have some uploaded and others not?

I have also noticed that while many of the pictures that have uploaded are greater than 2048…, they have also been reduced in file size during the upload.  This is the result of uploading .jpg instead of the raw format.  However, the dimensions of the pics still exceed Apple’s limitations.  Apple’s iCloud specialist currently have no answer, and have submitted this issue to a higher authority.

The video limit is 720.  Some of my videos uploaded in 1080.  Another did not upload until I converted to 720.

Again, a similar issue.

Any help and feedback would be appreciated.

Jon

Update:  No help from Apple yet.

Their specs/limitations do not work.  I uploaded 411 photos in 50 file groupings and all uploaded to my shared album.  Most of them exceeded the 2048 limit.  However, another group of photos will not upload.  Still waiting to hear from Apple.

Just thought I would update. I love the photo/video sharing from the cloud.  I know there will be changes with Yosemite and IOS8, but this has proven to be easy and really no limitations. (Except 5 minute video limit).

I have been using iCloud import for a long time, but recently, I started using the iCloud Photo Sharing so I can import from my wife’s iPhone as well. I created a Shared Album on iCloud called ‘Family’ that anyone in the family could upload to. The next time I am working in Aperture, I would import into an appropriate Library.

It seemed to work well at first, but the last few times I used it, the photos were not sorted in the Sared Album in the iCloud Aperture window. This made it very difficult to import into an Aperture Library as I had to scan all 1000 or so images to find the new ones.

I have tried repairing my Aperture Library but that did not help.

Anyone else noticed this new ‘functionality’?
