Sad to say the least. I wonder how far Photos really is? Couldn't they use the same alpha version they showed at WWDC  Or they just want to send a message to the LR users out there that LR is iMac Retina Compatible? Really pitiful that Apple is making such an advancement in hardware and not having the software to justify it!

Some of us went through this process with Final Cut Pro X … in the early days it wasn’t ready for Prime Time. Now, it is an extremely viable and valuable tool that many users would be lost without it.

I much prefer to endure some short-term growing pains in order to reach a point where we have a tool that is based upon new code that can grow more easily with the future … rather than watch engineers cobble together decades old code that is Photoshop and Lightroom so it can keep up.

Going for a fresh start isn’t always a bad deal.

I’m sure hoping Photos turns out to be more than an Aperture replacement and Lightroom competitor. With Apple’s introduction of Extensions, nondestructive plug-ins could possibly be added as extensions to the RAW workflow and eliminate the need for exporting images to jpg or tiff. Just keep the whole thing in Photos from camera to printer.

But I agree. I hate seeing Apple with new hardware and no software to make it sing.

I have tested the new iMac 5K at the apple store, the screen is really impressive (imagine a huge ipad retina screen with pixels impossible to see).

I used Aperture and was very nice on the new screen, maybe the left panel could be smaller with all that detail (looks like it is just scaled to fit the screen).

I havent noticed any speed increase or decrease compared to older iMac, library is very fast, editing depends on what you touch is instant or thinks for a while.. looks like the resolution doesn’t change much the performance.
