I was at B&H today and tried out the D810. Initial impression..awesome. I brought a CF card and took some pics and movies. After import to Aperture, the .mov imported just fine. However, the .nef files are ‘unsupported’. What can I do to correct this?

Thanks.

Jon

You’ll have to wait until Apple releases a Camera RAW update, or use Capture NX-D (free) to process them until then (be warned - Capture NX-D underwhelms).

Even Adobe hasn’t updated Lr or ACR yet for the D810.

Yes. Thanks. Adobe has updated Adobe/LR with Candidate Raw for D810. Not final though.  I’ve ‘requested’ information from Apple about a D810 raw update for OSX Preview. If this is done, I wonder if Aperture is then updated as well. I am holding off purchase of D810 until this works out one way or another.

Jon,

One of my cameras is the Sony A6000 which has been out since late February 2014 and still no Camera Raw from Apple. Adobe Lightroom has had it for months along with DxO and Capture One. Go Figure. I used to go back and forth between Aperture and Lightroom but now just use Lightroom along with Capture One. Aperture Library has now been stored on an external hard drive and put aside until I see what the new Photo App will be like.

Apple is definitely over time with the next Camera RAW update. At least 1-2 Months. Camera RAW is part of Mac OS X and not Aperture. There definitely will be a Camera RAW update for the Sony A6000 and the D810. My guess is that the developers have enough work to do currently ;).

Did Apature make an update yet, I uploaded my test shots just now and was surprised to see them unsupported….while my d800 were. If so, where do I get the update? Sorry, I’m very old school and not so tech savvy.

I don’t recall having done a thing to install the update, but I can now view my D810 NEF files. Perhaps one of my kids did it when I wasn’t looking. Regardless, you can get the download at the link below:

I have been in touch with apple senior staff to resolve issues with camera raw 5.07. Unsupported file.
I noticed that the file size (B&H demo camera) is 29.2. Camera raw only supports ‘RawL’. Could this .nef be an sRaw? Otherwise still stumped.
