I uploaded some photos to Aperture while on vacation. The pics are there in the project but there is nothing in the “Info” tab. No adjustments can be made to the photos and in the bottom right corner of each one is an icon of a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and an arrow.
Any help would be appreciated. I would love to save these photos.

Katie… the badge you see indicates the photo is a referenced image, but is currently offline. One way this can happen is that you imported the images with “Store Files In their current location” specified rather than “In the Aperture Library” or a specific folder. I.,e., the originals stayed on your camera’s card. And since it isn’t connected, Aperture can’t find the originals. Where do you normally store your originals?
The images will still be on the camera’s card unless you reformatted the card after importing. If so, you can use the “Relocate Originals” feature, but that can be pretty confusing. Or since you haven’t done any processing yet, it would be simpler to just reimport the images to a different project, this time specifying where you really want them. Once they are properly imported you can delete the previous project.

I always store my Masters in my Aperture library and keep them as “managed.” Not sure what happened. Are you saying I can import a new project from the first project? The one that has the warning badge on them?
Unfortunately I did reformat the card and so the original images are gone. It’s nothing I would be terribly upset about but if I can salvage them I would like to.

Jim, please disregard. I went back through my photos and had recovered the projects before reformatting my card. They were in a Project called “Recovered Project”.

The setting that possibly caused your problem is towards the top of the import panel– it’s the “Store Files” drop down list.
What I meant was to reimport the originals again to a new project. But you don’t have the originals any longer so that’s not possible.
There’s no option to “reconnect” since the originals are offline to Aperture.
You have a couple of other options to try:
- Can you see the images in the Viewer – the “full screen” view”? If so, what you’re seeing is the preview. You can drag the image to a folder or the desktop and you’ll get a JPEG version that’s the size you have specified in Preferences for previews. At least you would have something from your vacation.
- There are data recovery programs available that can retrieve images from a reformatted card. But only images that have not been overwritten by new images are recoverable. So depending on how much you used the reformatted card you might be able to restore some of the originals. Google “data recovery software for memory card” for some options.
