Switching from iphoto to Aperture #1

A year ago I switched to Aperture from iphoto and am loving it.  When I made the switch I selected to import my iphoto library as reference and not a copy.  Now I am running into storage issues on my mac and would like to move all my iphoto pictures to an external hard drive and have them accessible through aperture only.  How do I go about doing this?  My vision would be that I have not pictures in iphoto.  All my pictures would be on an external hard drive and would be in aperture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to have images stored as Year/Month/Day then thats easy. Select all photos and then select “File”…Relocate Originals…. and select Yr/mo/da in the subfolder format and  the exterior hard drive location.  If you don’t want it that then explore the other options in that dialog box.  Have a backup so if you change your mind or hit the wrong choice you can try again.  Cheers
