Error running Aperture #1

I recently had re reinstall my Mac OS Snow Leopard and reinstalled Apreture from disc. Every time I tried running it It failed with an error and suggested a reinstall.

I'd always fancied Aperture from the new App Store as it seemed good value so I bought that instead. After installing I still had the same error, below. Deleted it and reinstalled from App Store again but same error.

Any ideas?

Mike

Mike,

Reading that log, I see this line:

Library not loaded:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/ Versions/B/PluginManager

Did you check in there to see if that file is there or not? If it’s there, move it to the desktop and launch Aperture again. If that fails, reinstall Aperture at that point.

If it’s not there, let me know and I’ll try to come up with something else.

Hi Joseph

It’s not there.

The Versions folder just contains an alias to a file called “Current”

I’m a bit stuck, so if you can come up with something it would get me out of a hole.

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

OK try this… I’ve compressed the contents of my /Versions folder and placed them here for you to download. There are two folders, called A and B that go next to that Current alias [screenshot].

It’s a long shot, but drop that in and let’s see what happens.

Many thanks, that seems to have done the trick.

Any idea if the missing files were part of the Aperture install or the OS reinstall?

Mike,

I haven’t got a clue. That’s fantastic that it worked though!

Googling for /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager seems to bring up a few interesting threads on Apple support which mention -

“It turned out the upgrade silently nuked a bunch of optional Apple frameworks in /Library/Frameworks/, on my machine the PluginManager.framework (required by Aperture) and a bunch of WebObjects related libraries. Restoring /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework with TimeMachine fixed the crash.”

(not too clear which upgrade they mean) and

I had the same problem, and found an easier way to install the missing PluginManager.framework - you can download a separate installer here:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/Plugin_Manager_1_7_3

I may try the latter when I get home today in case there’s anythign else missing

Mike,

That’s awesome. I’d definitely recommend you run the installer; I’m sure there’s something else missing we’re not aware of.

Hi Joseph,

I was doing a cleanup of my mac and accidentally deleted the framework file. I managed to find a copy of the pluginmanager.framework, but now aperture is asking for my iLifeFaceRecognition.framework. Do you have any idea where I can download this without reinstalling OS?
Thanks
Conor
